Henna Asikainen is a mixed-media artist, born in Joensuu, Finland.

My principal interests as an artist are in questions surrounding environmental justice, climate change, migration, human relationships with nature and the complex social, cultural and ecological issues emerging from these.

Recently many of my projects have engaged a site-specific element with communal and social experiences and have been created with the participation of displaced peoples’ communities and especially migrants with a refugee background.

These works have addressed complex issues surrounding migration: such as belonging, ownership and access to earth and nature. The work explores elements that constitute the sense of security and belonging; what we call ‘home’ and how this might be built though cultural hospitality.
