Oceans was produced specifically for The 4th International Conference on Environmental Aesthetics in Finland.
The theme of the conference was the aesthetics of water. The work explores the existence of water in outer space and how this supports the possibility of life elsewhere.
Appropriated imagery from NASA’s educational web archive was mixed together with our own footage in an attempt to construct a provisional map of inner and outer worlds, of wonder and speculation. Oceans invites the viewer on a journey into the depths of space that exists at the conjunction of the inner (mental) and outer (physical) - a space that is as conceptual as it is actual.
This was a collaborative work with the Brazilian artist, Silvana Macedo.
